Job Description
Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Coordinator shall: * Implement and maintain safety, health and environmental program requirements based on Center directives. The safety of personnel, facilities and operations are paramount in conjunction with fulfilling the mission. It is Vertex and NASA policy to protect personnel, public, avoid loss of life, personal injury or illness, property loss or damage, or harm to the environment in pursuit of its logistical support to the mission. * Contractor shall maintain and ensure compliance with the Vertex safety, health, and environmental program and plan, including, but not limited to: * Confined space, lockout/tagout, fall protection, management of training and certification, and Tool / Chem Crib oversight. * EH&S Coordinator shall respond to center-wide safety, health, environmental, and fire protection concerns and goals and participate in meetings and other activities related to the Safety and Health Plan. * Contractor shall participate in Center and Flight Operations level safety meetings, branch meetings, forums and initiatives as communicated by the COR. * Participation includes both activities related to, preparation for, attendance at, and responses to such activities. These include, but are not limited to, Center Safety All-Hands meetings, Safety Management System audits and inspections, Safety committees, Safety Forums, Safety culture surveys, and mishap investigation support. * Attend Company, Base Environmental and or Hazmat, Federal and State meetings / training as required. Safety Management System * The Contractor shall participate and comply with NASA''''s Safety Management System protocol as applied at the center level to its activity. Any conflicts between Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) documentation and the center practices will be brought to the attention of the Program office and Contracting Office Representative. * Develop and maintain a system to manage risks to center operations that are associated
with its statement of work in accordance with NPR 8000.4, Agency Risk Management Procedural Requirements. This activity will be formally documented and reported quarterly to the COR. * Mishap Investigation Support. * Assist in Hazardous waste/material, Safety and Corporate EH&S audits. * Coordinate with customer Safety and quality representatives with NASA or mishaps will be investigated by NASA (either solely or in parallel to another organization), the EH&S and VTX employees shall provide information, evidence and/or assistance in accordance with NPR 8621.1, NASA Procedural Requirements for Mishap and Coordinate and manage Close Call Reporting, Investigating, and Recordkeeping. Training * Aid in developing, documenting, and implementing a training and certification process that ensures all personnel are properly trained and qualified. * Provide environmental, health, and safety training to ensure employee compliance with NASA, Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and instructions. * Schedule attendance of employees at such training, * Maintain training and certification records for each employee and make records available to Program Manager and Contracting Officer * Develop monthly training reports to track completed, overdue and projected training utilizing the customer-training portal (SATERN), and Vertex training portal (My Learning). Qualifications / Experience / Education Requirements: * Have at least five (5) years of experience within the past seven (7) years in occupational or environmental health, safety, or a related field * Experienced with OSHA requirements * Knowledge and experience with Windows 10 operating system and utilizing all Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams) * Able to obtain and maintain U.S. Secret Clearance, Active clearance preferred Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in aircraft hangar environment. Must be able to climb/board aircraft. Must be able to bend, stoop, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, grasp. Must be able to walk for long distances moving from one work site to another. Must be able to work primarily with fingers such as for typing. Must be able to communicate effectively. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to lift/maneuver up to 20 pounds. Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects or small parts. Must be able to work in extreme heat. Will be subject to noise and hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat. Subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. Must be able to work in narrow aisles or passageways.
